Thank You Charlaine Harris!!!

I am such a fan of Charlaine Harris's !

If you don't know who she is you are missing out. She is the author of The Southern Vampire series starring Sookie Stackhouse. Sound familiar? Well these are the novels that the HBO series True Blood based on. It's like Twilight but very much for adults only. Both the books and series are funny, sexy and haunting (in violence and plot) and so very good!

She also wrote the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries and several other books and series which are very good as well.

I am not going to go into every book of Charlaine's I have read, I just want to really recommend them to everyone.

Charlaine has this amazing ability to write a story that with character that you feel truly attached to and she doesn't have to overwhelm you with twists and junk to do it. The plot's are not that complex and are often obvious as far as a mystery would go but they extremely entertaining.

One thing I specifically love about The Southern Vampire Series and the series True Blood is they are not alike! The books are great and the show is great. They share characters and general plots but there are enough differences that you couldn't possibly get bored.

Here are some awesome sites to check out for more on Charlaine and her works and True Blood.

Oh but the main thing I want to thank Charlaine for isn't just for her books. It's that she created Sookie Stackhouse and the characters for the Southern Vampire series that inspired the show True Blood... it's because of her we have been given Alexander Skarsgard as Eric Northman on the series.... Yummy!

Got Cake?

Here are some pictures I took of my cakes:

This cake is from my baby's 1st birthday. It is 2 layers covered in fondant with a chocolate molded Elmo popping out.

This was a cake I did for my family reunion. It is not really cake. I did the cake part as a brownie and covered in fondant. From the branches hanging along with fondant leaves are cookies with the faces of our family piped from royal icing.

This cake was form my oldest kids birthday that had a carnival theme. The icing covering the cake and the figures are made from fondant and some of the details are buttercream. Every layer was a different flavor so each kid had their favorite included.

This is a cake with a basket weave pattern piped with buttercream and flowers made from royal icing.

Fondant cakes... But I gotta give props to my sister in law Nora:

Nora jumps in and helps me whenever I need a hand with a cake. She is such a whiz with fondant, especially figurines.

Lots of Dots Baby Cake

I already posted the diaper cake I made but here it the actual shower cake:

This one was so easy to do and everyone loved it! It's a simple 9 inch vanilla cake with buttercream filling and fondant icing with fondant molded baby figurine and bow. I smoothed the fondant out, laid it on and then added dots. The dots were tedious but it matched the diaper cake. Easy, fun and turned out really well.
